A FEW TIPS TO SPRUCE UP YOUR HOME
Spring is around the corner!
It’s that time of year again when winter is starting to fade away and you may be feeling the urge to do a spring purge or give your home a refresh. While renovating your kitchen or moving walls to open up your living space would definitely satisfy the refresh urge, simply making a few small changes or improvements can make a world of difference!
Here are some ideas for you to get that refresh you’re looking for, and the bonus is they hardly cost a thing:
Remove your room accents
Start by removing all accessories in the space – anything that isn’t furniture. By removing the “noise” from the room you’ll be able to see it with fresh eyes. It will give you a blank slate. Put all of the items you took away in one spot, for instance on the dining table or kitchen island.
Look closely at your furniture layout
With accessories removed, you can easily focus on the placement of furniture in the room. Depending on the size of the room, you may be able to try some different configurations – and if so, give it a try. It’s amazing how moving a few pieces of furniture around can hugely improve the look and feel of a space.
Time to audit your accents
Turn your attention back to the accessories that you set aside. You may find that the room just needs some edits so you can better showcase the things you love. Start by putting back your favourite things – and if you don’t have any, well that’s a sign to do some purging and head online!
Shop other rooms
You can also walk around your house and select accessories from other spaces that might work. Somehow a lamp, piece of art, or vase from another room can look brand new in another location.
Add the personal touches
Once your best pieces are placed, try and remove anything else that is just extra clutter – for instance, instead of stacking your shelves full of books and magazines, use those shelves to add personal touches and décor pieces such as a small plant, family pictures and / or candles. It’s remarkable how these accents can really warm up a space. Also, try changing or adding throw pillows, or a new throw blanket.
